Jasper Mein has studied Hotel and Event Management at Tio University of Applied Sciences. These days, he works as restaurant manager and sommelier at Restaurant Hermitage. “I love interacting with guests.”
Jasper: “As a restaurant manager, I draw up the daily schedule for the staff and look at all the reservations made for that day. I focus on the business economics, which is all about achieving targets. The customer is also king, of course. I get a lot of energy out of this job and I love seeing a guest leave with a smile on their face.” Jasper is also responsible for the recruitment and selection of staff. “I host training sessions and oversee the development of employees.”
Michelin star
Restaurant Hermitage has earned a Michelin star and it is a true family business. Jasper: “You can immediately tell that it is a family business, because the owner is always there and everyone gets along really well. Hospitality is our main concern. We offer our guests excellent food and a fantastic selection of wines.” Jasper has also earned his sommelier diploma. “Everything to do with wine is therefore also my responsibility. I purchase wines and compose the wine list.”
High-quality degree
Jasper: “At the time, I chose Tio because of the possibility of accelerated studying: I would be able to complete the bachelor’s degree in just three years. The Hotel and Event Management programme has also given me a broad foundation. After earning my degree, I was able to get a job right away. First, I spent six months working at the company where I completed my final thesis, before moving to Restaurant Hermitage.” In the future, Jasper would love to become an independent entrepreneur. “I am thinking about going into consultancy. Offering hospitality trainings, for example, or something to do with interim management.”
