Larissa Esser is the Senior Vice President of Eastdil Secured; a subsidiary of Wells Fargo that focuses on real estate investment banking. She focuses on the Dutch real estate market, but advises on transactions across the whole of Europe.

Which competency do you value most in yourself?

My enthusiasm, creativity, tenacity and perseverance.

Most used app?

Evernote, Blinkist and Spotify.

How will digital developments change the real estate sector?

There is much to change; digital developments are not linear but exponential and real estate remains one of the least technologically advanced sectors. Specifically for hotels: from construction (for example, prefabricated modular rooms to 3D-printing and use of robots in construction) to real estate transactions (use of artificial intelligence for contracts) and hotel management (use of technology to make contact with clients; before, during and after the stay.) We are on the cusp of an exciting time!

Most exciting assignment?

I was lucky enough to work on an impressive list of assignments in the Netherlands; I am incredibly proud of each and every one of the projects. My first transaction was the sale and leaseback of the American Hotel in Amsterdam, and the sale of Pulitzer Amsterdam, DoubleTree by Hilton Amsterdam, W Amsterdam, Park Hotel Amsterdam, Bilderberg Hotels and Restaurants, to name but a few, were all fantastic projects and experiences. In addition, I have worked on many wonderful transactions overseas, of which the Ritz Hotel in Madrid, Westin in Venice and Fairmont le Montreux Palace in Montreux were highlights. In fact, I expect to add a few more exciting projects to this little list…

If you had not ended up in real estate…?

Then I would be a professional polo player (or not…)!

What keeps you ticking?

Hotel owners with passion, creativity and pride.
