"I really enjoyed the Event Week"

Laura van Kessel is studying Hotel and Event Management at Tio and is currently doing an internship in Australia. During her bachelor programme, Laura has participated in quite a few projects. “I really enjoyed the Event Week.”

The Event Week took place this past December. Laura: “During this week, the Hotel and Event Management students of all locations compete against each other. This is done in groups, with each group appointing one group leader. The entire week is all about coming up with and developing a concept for an official client. It is awesome to work for a real client!” The client was fashion label Maison de Bonneterie, which has locations in Amsterdam and The Hague. The assignment was to organise an event to celebrate the company’s 125th anniversary. “With this event, they wanted to both thank their loyal customers and change their existing image to appeal to a new audience. All in all, it was a fun challenge!”

Competition

Laura learned a lot from the projects. Laura: “During the Event Week, you have to work together with a lot of different personalities. I learned so much, because teamwork is vital in the event sector. Additionally, you are working together with a real client during this project and you have to present your final product. This ensures that you work in a more professional manner and it also helps you further improve your communication skills. Because it is a competition, everyone is even more motivated throughout the week.

Prepared by Tio for your professional career

Laura highly recommends her current Hotel and Event Management bachelor programme. Laura: “It offers an excellent combination of theory and practice. On top of that, it is very cool to get a chance to look behind the scenes of many famous event (locations) and hotels. My fellow students are highly motivated and the atmosphere is great here. The programme offers you many opportunities and you are fully prepared to start the rest of your professional career. You work and study in small groups, you get a lot of personal attention and everything is very accessible. Finally, there are many opportunities to go abroad, which makes everything even more appealing and challenging!” Laura knows what she wants from her future. “I want to keep working abroad and travel the world!”
