Can you bring your partner and/or child to the Netherlands as a Tio student?
Yes, it is possible to bring your partner and/or children under 18 to the Netherlands while studying at Tio Business School. However, there are important conditions you should be aware of.
You are the sponsor
As an international non-EU/EEA student, you are responsible for applying for your family members' residence permits. Unlike your own student permit, Tio Business School cannot submit these applications on your behalf. You will act as their legal and financial sponsor, meaning you are responsible for supporting them during their stay in the Netherlands.
Good to know: Tio Business School won’t be able to answer any questions regarding a partner or child visa application. You must directly reach out to IND yourself.
FAQ
- How long does the process take?
You must submit your application directly to the IND. The processing time can take up to 90 days (3 months), so it is recommended to apply well in advance of your family's planned arrival. - Can my partner work?
In many cases, a partner who receives a residence permit as the family member of a student is not automatically allowed to work. The employment rights depend on the residence permit issued by the IND, so always check the conditions on the residence document after approval. For any questions, please contact the IND. - What are my legal obligations?
As a sponsor, you have legal obligations towards the IND, including informing them of relevant changes (such as changes in your address, relationship, or study status) and keeping the required documentation.
