Orientation Visa
After completing your studies at Tio, international students may be eligible to apply for the Dutch Orientation Year. This visa allows graduates to stay in the Netherlands for up to one year to look for a job or start a business.
Please note that students are responsible for applying for this visa themselves through the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). Tio does not submit the application on your behalf, but we can provide general information to help you get started.
During the orientation year, you have full access to the Dutch labour market. This means you can work for any employer without the need for a separate work permit. It gives you the flexibility to explore career opportunities, gain work experience, and build a professional network in the Netherlands.
To be eligible, you must apply within three years of graduating from a recognised higher education institution, such as Tio. Once granted, the orientation visa cannot be extended, but it offers an excellent pathway towards a long-term career in the Netherlands.
Collecting your diploma
We often see international students return to their home country shortly after graduation. While this is understandable, it is important to make arrangements for receiving your official diploma.
In many cases, diplomas are presented during a graduation ceremony or can be collected in person at the institution. We strongly recommend collecting your diploma yourself, as you may be required to show identification and sign for receipt. This also ensures that you receive your original document safely and without delay.
If you are unable to stay in the Netherlands, alternative arrangements may be possible. Depending on the institution, you may be able to Authorize someone to collect your diploma on your behalf.
Please note that these options may involve additional steps, processing time, or risks (such as loss during shipping). Therefore, we advise you to plan ahead before leaving the Netherlands and check the specific procedures with your institution.
In the meantime, you can usually access a digital extract of your diploma through the Dutch government (DUO), which is considered an official proof of graduation, however a grade list is not added.
