Tio students find internships at Career Event

Put 900 ambitious top students, 150 renowned companies and several inspiring guest speakers together and you have the Tio Career Event! During this annual event, Tio students seek out a dream internship or graduation project for themselves and work on building their networks. "It’s very cool that Tio organises the Career Event. You can make a lot of connections and it boosts your motivation."

Networking and inspiration

Here, in an informal festival atmosphere, students get the chance to network with companies and fellow students. And if they need a nice profile picture for their CV or LinkedIn profile, a professional photographer is on hand to help. Whatever it takes to get that dream internship! Commerce Economics and Entrepreneurship student Charlotte says: "I like that by coming here, I can gain an impression of the different internship companies. The Career Event is really top-notch, with interesting speakers."

Tips from the speakers: Work hard, work smart and persevere

Speakers? Yes indeed: on behalf of business students, presenter Welmoed Sijtsma (from popular Dutch TV-show Wie is de Mol?) asks former Quote editor-in-chief and journalist Jort Kelder all kinds of questions. Jort: "To become a great entrepreneur, you have to go all the way. Hard work, but above all smart work. Truly great minds are the ones who do something that’s never been done before.” For the hospitality and tourism students, E&A Events founder Alex Hes explains how his company has grown into such a huge success. Above all, he urges the students to persevere, even in the face of adversity: "You may face setbacks, but if you really want something, you’ll get there in the end!"

"When I see Tio on a CV, I know for sure: this one’s a good candidate.”

The first step is looking for a cool internship. At the Career Expo, more than 150 renowned companies such as ABN AMRO, Duinrell and Hotels van Oranje are eagerly awaiting the students’ arrival, looking for the best match. That’s because an intern from the best small university of applied sciences in the Netherlands is a valuable commodity for them! Manon from PwC: "At PwC we are really looking for that hospitality spirit, which fits our company very well. When someone sends me their CV and I see Tio on it, I know for sure: this one is a good candidate. Tio students are hard workers, real go-getters.” Anouk from Make-A-Wish Netherlands adds: "We’ve had Tio interns before, too, and that went really well. It is unique that Tio students also do an internship in the summer. They take it seriously and can really contribute something to the organisation."

Additional motivation

On the floor of the career fair, students are busy talking to companies. Hotel and Event Management student Anne: "It's great that Tio organises such an event. Just by walking around, you can get an idea of what kind of internship company appeals to you most. And it's fun to see everyone here!" International Business Management student Marijn also seizes the opportunity to talk to the companies: "It's very cool that Tio organises this event. You can make a lot of connections and it boosts your motivation." Time to go get that dream internship!
