The international experience on your resume will definitely be an advantage to you in regard to jobs. Learning how to singlehandedly resolve problems, meet new people and improve your language skills are the reasons why Tio gives you plenty of space for personal and intellectual growth and international development. Throughout the entire course, Tio will offer you several opportunities to venture out abroad.
Many students at Tio do one or more work placements abroad. This requires a large degree of independence and initiative on your part. You will become acquainted with other cultures and become more aware of the need for good language skills. The minimum length of a work placement is 13 weeks, but work placements abroad often last about 4 months up to a maximum of 10 months. Students who receive a student grant are also eligible for a non-resident grant during a work placement abroad. For some work placements abroad, a minimum age limit of 18 years applies.
Within Europe it is possible to get by with an amount of € 575,-, € 275,- for housing and € 300,- for administrative expenditure. A return ticket costs ± € 100,-. Outside of Europe the costs are higher, € 400,- for housing and € 300,- for administrative expenditure. A return ticket costs ± € 1.500,- and a visa € 200,-. The above-mentioned amounts are an indication of the costs.
Tio collaborates with several partner universities throughout the world, from Aberdeen to New York and from Barcelona to Taichung (Taiwan). During the minor programme you will have the opportunity to study for one or two semesters at one of the partner universities, without study delay.
If you are doing the four-year programme, during the minor phase you can choose to do the grand international tour, which means that you substitute your second year work placement for an extra semester of studying abroad. You will study two semesters (one year) abroad at two of Tio’s partner universities.
The Erasmus grant is a one-time only grant for bachelor students seeking a work placement abroad or attending an student exchange abroad, but within Europe. The grant is intended as compensation for the costs of living abroad. Whether or not a student is eligible for a grant depends on the number of grants made available to Tio, which differs every year.
Every year you can participate in one or more excursions, with a range of destinations from Berlin to the USA.
