Het Career Event gaf studenten de mogelijkheid om te netwerken met stagebedrijven, hun cv te laten checken door recruiters en workshops te volgen. Ook was er een dagvullend programma van gastsprekers. Wat gaven zij de studenten mee?
Wat was er zoal te beleven op het Career Event?
- Zo'n 140 bedrijven voor stage en afstuderen.
- Speciale businesszaal met business- en e-commercebedrijven.
- Prominente sprekers: Marc Lammers, Joseph Oubelkas, Cor Molenaar, Tom Vroemen, Henk Wolbers en Richard van Hooijdonk.
- Workshops voor studenten zoals guerrilla solliciteren, sales skills, pitch jezelf en onderhandelen.
- Bedrijfspresentaties van onder meer Ritz Carlton, Food Inspiration en Vacansoleil.
- International lounge met stands van partnerscholen en stagebemiddelingsbureaus.
- En nog veel meer: zoals een cv-check, het laten maken van een professionele portretfoto of juist een funpic!
Henk Wolbers: solliciteren bij Google
Henk Wolbers, Industry Manager bij Google, betrekt de studenten al snel bij zijn presentatie met een quiz via Kahoot. Winnares Michelle moet tijdens haar sollicitatiegesprek bij Google vooral zeggen dat ze hierbij eerste is geworden, zegt Wolbers grappend. Het is een opstapje naar de kern van zijn verhaal: de marketeer van de toekomst. Die moet zowel creatief, als analytisch zijn en snel kunnen inspringen op (en zelfs vooruitlopen op) technische innovaties. “Het was leuk, interessant”, vindt student E-commerce Marketing Sales Max van Turnhout. “Hij vertelt het met passie.”
Marc Lammers: think in possibilities
Former hockey coach Mark Lammers shows the students that everybody has a talent, an accelerating quality. The most important thing is to think in possibilities. “Make things happen”, he tells the students. “Winners start, innovate, change and are open for improvement. Losers always have an excuse, they wait for things to happen. You are all winners, you are sitting here!” Student International Business Management Aito Atzema liked Lammers’ speech. “I have seen him speak before, he is a very good speaker.”
Cor Molenaar: consumenten hebben de macht
Sinds de opkomst van de smartphone in 2007 beleven we de vierde industriële revolutie, vertelt trendwatcher Cor Molenaar. “Consumenten hebben de macht gegrepen en organisaties die niet goed of te laat inspringen op consumentengedrag gaan ten onder. Zo wil de jonge generatie faciliteiten, geen bezit, leven en een beetje werken. Alles is connected en daar moeten we mee leren omgaan.”
Richard van Hooijdonk: prepare for change
“People are not made for change, but change is the only constant factor”, says trend watcher Richard van Hooijdonk. He states that it is necessary to build companies on a new foundation, with new people who have new mind sets. Technology will have an increasing impact on life and work. “Almost all branches will change. People are learning for jobs that won’t exist in 10 years from now.” The lecture was interesting, Hotel and Event Management student Thomy Kleijngeld says. “But it was also a bit depressing. Am I studying for nothing? According to him, the jobs I am learning for, won’t exist anymore in a few years.”
Joseph Oubelkas: create your own luck
At only 20 years old, author Joseph Oubelkas was the youngest IT-specialist. Before him lay a life of success. But then tragedy stroke. At 24 he was falsely convicted to ten years in prison in Morocco. “I feel privileged to share my story with you”, he tells the student. He starts telling his unbelievable story. The unfairness of it all is startling. “But you can’t dwell on that. How do you survive a situation like that, in a place like a Moroccan prison? It’s all about inner strength, a winning attitude. You do it for yourself. And then you find that you are stronger than you think.” His mother was of great support and inspiration for Oubelkas. She told him to take care of himself, to brush his teeth every day, to keep his head high. “So I got to know their culture. I taught people English and I learned better Arabic. I started with workout classes for the other inmates and started working in the prison shop. I built a life for myself.” Oubelkas was 29 when he got out. “Nobody is waiting for you when you get out. You determine everything in life. You all have a story. So, what are you going to do with your life? You create your own luck, go for it!”
Tom Vroemen: kom verder door jezelf iets aan te leren
Tom Vroemen is een “self learning en self made man”. Hij heeft zelf leren programmeren om zijn crowdfundingplatform op te kunnen zetten. En in plaats van nog meer duizenden euro’s aan juristen te besteden, heeft hij na een maand verdiepen in juridische zaken het zelf voor elkaar gekregen om een AFM-melding te krijgen. Iets wat de juristen niet lukte.
Volgens Vroemen bevordert crowdfunding de betrokkenheid bij investeerders. Zijn conclusie als self learning man? Door jezelf iets aan te leren, kun je best ver komen! Zo bouwde hij niet alleen een online platform, samen met zeven vrienden bouwde hij bovendien zijn eigen woning. Een enorm pand, waar veel aandacht voor was. Zelfs vanuit het Britse parlement.
